WELCOME TO WEEK 2!

Well, it was far from the beginning of the Term we would have thought we would have had, with the rain that just kept coming! Thank you for your understanding as we did what needed to be done and it was good to be back to our normal routine so quickly!

Our team have come back to school happy and are very settled in their work as we begin the term. We are thrilled to see that they have adjusted to the staff changes in the team very positively, and it is learning as usual each day!

Thank you so much for encouraging your child to wear a mask at school. We totally understand how difficult this is, and we appreciate it is far from enjoyable from the kids point of view also. It is helpful if your child brings their own mask to school, however we do have a small supply of masks here at school, that we are happy to distribute for use.

KAIAPOI HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION EVENING -
Each year, Kaiapoi High School comes in to chat to parents (children can also attend) about what to expect next year. This takes place in our team space on THURSDAY 25th AUGUST at 7 - 8:30pm.  This evening is appropriate for parents of both Year 7 and 8 parents and is always a very informative chat.
Could you please just flick us a quick email - k.morrison@clarkville.school.nz - to let us know if you are thinking of attending, so we can get a gauge on numbers.

RELATIONSHIPS AND SEXUALITY EDUCATION -
During Term 3 we will be teaching our Sexuality Programme in Matawara. There has been a HERO alert that asked for community feedback on this process which will be reviewed before we begin teaching this programme.
We will be teaching through the Ministry of Education approved 'Navigating the Journey' resource and we will teach in seperate Year 7 and Year 8 groups. Every year we are blown away by the wonderful discussions and a sense of great friendship that emerges in our team through this process - it is a very powerful programme. We are looking to start in Matawara in the first half of the term, but will let you know the exact date, once community consultation has been complete.

Have a great week!
Kristie, Jenny, Sue and Helen.

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome to the first week back of Term 3!

We trust you and your children have enjoyed family time over the last couple of weeks, and that the children are all refreshed ready for another term in Matawara!
This term we have much going on with some changes in staffing. Just to remind you all the staffing in the Team over this term will look like this ...
  • Monday / Tuesday - Kristie and Jenny
  • Wednesday - Jenny and Sue Caddie (Kristie is out with DP Duties)
  • Thursday / Friday - Kristie and Sue
Please be assured that all teachers are able to answer any questions regarding our Team, and with this in mind, please include ALL THREE TEACHERS in any emails. This is vital to ensure things do not drop through the cracks!

YEAR 8 LEADERSHIP PROJECTS -
I had the pleasure of marking the Research and Skill Building section of these projects over the holidays, and it was wonderful to see how each child approached this. All Year 8's will begin to carry out their projects this term, and we will work together to ensure we can programme everyone in, so they all get a fair share of the time.

YEAR 8 LEADERSHIP BADGES -
The Year 8 Leadership Badges will be awarded early in Term 4, for those who meet the criteria. All children are very aware of these criteria as we have been working through them in our Leadership time at school. The criteria are laid out on our Matawara Website

ICAS TESTING -
ICAS Testing will be occurring this term too. There was an alert that came out last term where you could register your child, and it held all of the information regarding what test and when. Please refer to that alert for all of the information you need.

TERM 3 TECH DAYS -
Our Tech days are as follows for this term. On these days, the children board the bus, and it leaves by 9:15am sharp. We like the team to be at school no later than 9:00am on these days, so we can complete the roll and discuss any notices etc.
  • Week 1 - July 29th (THIS WEEK!)
  • Week 3 - August 12th
  • Week 5 - August 26th
  • Week 7 - September 9th
  • Week 9 - September 23rd
STATIONERY -
As usual, children seem to haemorrhage stationery! Last term we noticed a particular lack of red pens, pencils, glue sticks, head phones (not expensive ones!) and rulers as the term progressed. Can you please ensure your child is ready to go, day one with these things.

Have a great week, and do come in and say hello!
Kristie, Jenny, Sue and Helen.
