Welcome to Week 5!
Well, we are certainly having a Covid resurgence in our team at the moment and thank you to those parents who have notified us promptly upon a positive test.
It was a gorgeous day on Tuesday for our school-wide trip to Silver Stream and also for our two teams who went to the annual PCT Competition. Congratulations to Lily, Oskar, Ryan, Rosa, Cooper, Ben P, Leilani and Taylah, who made up our two teams, and a BIG THANK YOU to the parents who attended the day with them!
PCT TEAMS IN ACTION!
This week, we have also continued our speech preparation in readiness for our Year 8 Speech competition in Week 6. On THURSDAY 2nd JUNE all Year 8's will present their speech to Matawara, with Year 7's presenting theirs shortly after.
It is an expectation that ALL OF MATAWARA will be working on their speech at home to be ready for this deadline.
2022 TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGE -
Every year the Tech Centre at Kaiapoi Borough put together the Tech Challenge. This is an OPTIONAL event, and is done in teams of 3-4 students. It will require a place in one of the team members homes to complete.
Please view
ALL INFORMATION HERE on our website and feel free to form teams, and enter them on the links within this. We will make sure they are officially entered.
THIS IS A FIRST IN FIRST SERVED entry - as both competitions are limited to 4 teams PER SCHOOL.
LEADERSHIP -
Our Leadership programme in Matawara are the 'homework' that all of our Team should be completing. There is timetabled class time for Leadership Learning, with both the Year 7 and Year 8 Leadership projects being self managed learning.
Year 8's should be developing their Research and Skill Building around their projects. This is where they are completing all of the LEARNING they need to do, so they can successfully carryout their project. The things that could be included (but should NOT be limited to) - lesson planning, emailing and securing bookings, designing dance routines, visiting experts, maintaining their Leadership diary and much more. Remember, Year 8's should be spending at least 1.5 hours per week on their project.
Year 7's should be continuing their learning around 'The Elements of Colour' which is building their understanding of concepts needed to create the Year 8 Leavers book, by the end of the year.
JUMPING JUNE -
Please sign your child up for a Jumping June profile page. This is a whole school fundraising campaign for NZ Heart Foundation. We are aiming for every child to raise $10
