WELCOME TO WEEK 4!

We've had a busy week getting speeches underway. We have a great range of topics from 'Parents need to be more strict'  to the 'Benefits of speed Rubiks cubing'. At the moment the children are busy researching their topics and next week we'll start organising topics for each paragraph. As we told the team, these skills will be used right through to university for essay writing, so it's well worth persevering and mastering the basics of persuasive writing.

We have had the whole school together twice this week!! On Wednesday it was the fabulous Cross Country event and we love how the Matawara kids step up to help adults and support younger children. There were some stunning costumes!! We had our first assembly for the year on Thursday and celebrated with singing, dancing, poetry and Choose to be More certificates. Congratulations to Saskia who won the Write On national poetry writing competition. Clara-Jane and Bella were highly commended. Brilliant results for our school!

Good times on the Cross Country Fun Run!

Coming up in Week 4 we have our school trip to Silverstream Reserve on Tuesday. The children will be working in Buddy Groups to do some mulching, explore bugs and learn about the history of our local waterways. Matawara children will be walking down and taking the bus back after eating lunch. Please send your children to school with warm clothing, gumboots, drink bottles, morning tea and lunch. Parents are most welcome to join us on the day!

JUMPING JUNE -
Please sign your child up for a Jumping June profile page. This is a whole school fundraising campaign for NZ Heart Foundation. We are aiming for every child to raise $10.  www.jumpingjune.co.nz

LEADERSHIP -
Our Leadership programme in Matawara are the 'homework' that all of our Team should be completing. There is timetabled class time for Leadership Learning, with both the Year 7 and Year 8 Leadership projects being self managed learning.

Year 8's should be developing their Research and Skill Building around their projects. This is where they are completing all of the LEARNING they need to do, so they can successfully carryout their project. The things that could be included (but should NOT be limited to) - lesson planning, emailing and securing bookings, designing dance routines, visiting experts, maintaining their Leadership diary and much more. Remember, Year 8's should be spending at least 1.5 hours per week on their project.

Year 7's should be continuing their learning around 'The Elements of Colour' which is building their understanding of concepts needed to create the Year 8 Leavers book, by the end of the year.
